MICROBIOMES

Pop up Space Installation

The experience itself will provide a multisensory introduction to good germs which live inside our bodies, using a simplified visual of the path between ingestion to defecation through a human. Users, in this case 12 children ages 6-12, will see an inviting colorful wall with a human diorama of a simplified digestive tract and a few shelves holding sensory objects. The diagram of the digestive tract will be labeled by a few written questions / facts that the children are unlikely to already know, such as the fact that “germs” live inside and outside our body and are essential for us to live. We will combat the stigma that all germs are bad by unveiling the benefits of our microbiome organisms and inviting the user to have a personal relationship with a microorganism by playing a game with a bacteria, virus, or yeast as their playing piece. In addition, there will be a weight that demonstrates the 5 lbs. of microorganisms living in an adult body and kombucha for the children to smell and taste beneficial germs.
